StreetWise Women™ is designed to be participation-friendly. Tell us what you need — physically, sensorially or emotionally — and we will build it into your session wherever reasonably possible.

Accessibility statement

Our commitment to accessible training

Iron Defence Academy is committed to delivering StreetWise Women™ in a way that respects the dignity, independence and privacy of every participant. We follow the principles of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code, and we accommodate to the point of undue hardship.

  • Venue access

In-person sessions are booked in step-free, ground-floor or elevator-served venues with accessible washrooms and seating. Venue access details are confirmed in writing before every session.

  • Flexible participation

Every physical drill has a seated, low-impact or observe-only alternative. No participant is required to demonstrate a technique to complete the course.

  • Communication supports

Materials are available in large print, plain language and screen-reader-friendly digital formats. ASL interpretation, live captioning and assistive listening can be arranged with notice.

  • Trauma-informed delivery

Content warnings are given before sensitive material, breaks are built into every session, and participants may step out and return at any time without explanation.

  • Support persons and service animals

Support persons attend at no additional cost and service animals are welcome at all in-person sessions.

  • Digital accessibility

This website targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA: keyboard-operable navigation, visible focus states, descriptive alt text and text contrast that meets AA minimums.

Feedback on the accessibility of our sessions, venues or website is welcome and is reviewed by the lead instructor. Email foluwa.rewane@irondefencesecurity.ca. Alternate formats of any course material are available on request at no extra cost.
